Calling All Iranian-American High School Students
Washington, D.C. -- Iranian Alliances Across Borders (IAAB) is looking for bright and motivated Iranian-American high school students to enter our Iranian-American Essay Contest and participate in our Iranian-American Leadership Camp.
Partnering with the skilled professional counselors of Thompson Island Outward Bound, IAAB will host the first Iranian-American Leadership Camp for high school students June 25-30, 2006, on Thompson Island, MA, located one mile off the coast of Boston.
This summer, sixty campers will have the chance to meet and form long lasting friendships with fellow Iranian-Americans from around the country. While participating in fun and challenging activities in a beautiful secure setting, they will acquire leadership skills that will benefit them in everything they do. Campers will learn to work in groups to achieve common goals – all while increasing awareness of the Iranian language and culture. For more information regarding housing arrangements, activities, safety issues, and other details, please visit our website: www.iranianalliances.org/leadershipcamp.htm.
IAAB has also created an opportunity for high school students to communicate their unique experiences growing up Iranian-American through our Iranian-American Essay Contest. This contest not only provides an opportunity for expression, but also a chance to win a full scholarship to IAAB’s Leadership Camp. The main question that the contest poses is: Has your Iranian-American upbringing ever put you in a unique situation that made you aware of your dual identity?
Essay Contest Finalists will be selected with the help of our distinguished guest judges: Afshin Molavi, Tara Bahrampour, Persis Karim, Nahid Mozaffari, and Arlene Dallalfar. Submissions must be 1000-1500 words in length, and can be mailed to javan@iranianalliances.org.
Through these projects, IAAB looks forward to meeting promising high school students who are eager to become strong leaders in their communities and express their voices!
